Boekarest 1989 - het laatste jaar van de dictatuur van Ceausecu. Eva woont samen met haar ouders en haar 7-jarige broertje, Lalalilu. Op een dag op school breken Eva en haar vriend per ongeluk een buste van Ceausescu. Ze worden gedwongen hun misdaad te bekennen voor een tuchtcommissie en Eva wordt van school gestuurd en overgebracht naar een hervormingsgezind establishment. Daar ontmoet ze Andrei en besluit samen met hem Roemenië te ontvluchten. Lalalilu raakt ervan overtuigd dat Ceausescu de belangrijkste reden is voor Eva's beslissing om te vertrekken. Dus bedenkt hij met zijn vrienden van school een plan om de dictator te vermoorden.
